Medoc and Saint Emilion
Bordeaux Wine Tours: Medoc and Saint Emilion
As spring makes its long-awaited arrival and traveling sans your parka seems more and more appealing, consider heading out of Paris for a wine-filled weekend in Bordeaux. There’s no shortage of well organized vineyard tours leaving from the tourist office in the heart of the city (we booked through Viator). On the Saturday of my visit we toured the Château Boudin and the Château Prieuré Lichine, both in the Medoc region. Sunday’s tour took us to the Château Tour de Pressac, but the early part of the afternoon was spent exploring the deeply charming village of St. Emilion, an enclave of stone alleyways, vineyard views, and boasting Europe’s largest underground church. The Château Tour de Pressac was, in my opinion, the most beautiful of the three, but the most colorful oenophile was found in the form of our tour guide at Château Prieuré Lichine. Remember his sage advice next time you’re in the wine aisle: “If you’re buying to drink right away, get excellent. If you’re buying for an investment, get remarkable. It’s just like choosing between a mistress and a wife.”
