What at first seems random in Amanda Ross-Ho’s “How to Remove Dark Spots” slowly comes together to offer an encompassing reflection on form and posturing.
Juxtaposing hallmarks of artistic production—paint-streaked gloves, rags and stencils—with carefully composed assemblages, Ross-Ho plays on the contrast between organic and affected elements.
The artist employs an assortment of repetitive elements in her pieces that in turn accentuate and mimic the gallery’s architectural space.

Plastic toys and miniatures peek out from niches in composite installations, enlivening potentially obtuse pieces and asserting a sense of humor in a world that often takes itself too seriously.
The distorted scale of commonplace fixtures, paired with interspersed bursts of color and large monochromatic pieces, disorients the viewer without leaving her at a total loss.
These myriad mediums and motifs combine to create a cohesive exhibit that deranges the senses in a surprisingly pleasing way.
