Peintures et Dessins

H. Craig Hanna

Location: Laurence Esnol Gallery/ 7 rue Bonaparte & 22 rue Bonaparte

by: Marina Buston

Right before the holidays, I was out Christmas shopping and stumbled upon Laurence Esnol Gallery, a space on Rue Bonaparte that features a permanent collection of paintings and sculptures by American artist H. Craig Hanna. The space is a strange one, with a creaky staircase and comfortable atmosphere, despite the stirring and provocative works. The top floor is warmly lit and features tightly packed walls of Hanna’s portraits along with vintage furniture and an unremarkable view of rue Bonaparte below. I obviously fell in love with all the quirks and charms of the small place. The gallery also features impermanent expositions from time to time, but H. Craig Hanna’s collection is rich and extensive, and more than enough art to fill a January afternoon.
