From the 12th to the 15th of November leading international galleries and art book publishers devoted the halls of the historical Grand Palais to the world of photography today for the 18th edition of Paris Photo.

Hosting 143 galleries and 26 art book dealers, the first international art fair for photographical work represented 35 countries not only in the fields of contemporary but also historical arts. As a visitor, I gained valuable insight on the topic and was impressed by the variety of selections, such as the Recent Acquisitions (2013-2014) by MoMa NY and the private collection of The Alkazi Collection of Photography.

Other highlights have been the Paris Photo Platform, curated by Urs Stahel, and the Open Book exhibition, which concentrated on artists' books published between the 60s and today. Furthermore, this year Paris Photo introduced a new category for the Photography Catalogue of the Year, presented at the 4th Photobook Awards, in partnership with the Aperture Foundation.

At the display of the 2014 awardees of the SFR Jeunes Talents competition, selected by a professional jury, I had the pleasure of seeing the work of Laurence van der Weid, an upcoming new artist, whose work you will have the chance to see next week on violet7.com.
