Truth or Consequences [Ronan Guillou]
written by: Marina Buston
Location: NextLevel Gallerie / 8 rue Charlot
End date: January 10
Artist Ronan Guillou’s initial inspiration for this collection of photos was the curious and undeniably poetic name of New Mexican town, Truth or Consequences. Paired with a sound installation of interviews of its inhabitants , the photos come alive with the color and spirit of the town. The sound installation by Robin Meier features a spectrum of recordings by Guillou during his trip to New Mexico. Sometimes you hear children playing and laughing, sometimes a gravelly old man’s voice summarizing a day in the desert. They set the stage for the photos, which present the sorrows, the banalities, and the joys of lives lived in a desert town with a name that sounds like something out of a film.
