Minimiam à Paris

By: Matilde Navarro

Location: Bibliothèque Chaptal

Last Day: Nov 9 2014

Minimiam is the result of a collaboration between Japanese Akiko Ida and the French Pierre Javelle. The two artists met during their photography studies in the Paris “Arts décoratifs” art school.

Akiko previously worked on gastronomy books. She took part in the writing of more than 30 cookbooks. As for Pierre, he grew up attracted by drawing illustrations and photography. His pictures are published in major gourmet magazines.

Coming up with the ideas for the pictures is not enough: they must create their settings, to make both the food and the miniature figures. The result is unbelievable. The food looks so real. As I was visiting the gallery I found myself wishing I was part of the pictures as one of its figures walking around mountains of biscuits. The title Minimiam fits like a glove: “minimiam” literally means “little” (mini) and “yummy” (miam in French).
